Newtimber Place Gardens
The gardens at Newtimber Place will be open as part of the NGS (National Gardens Scheme) on Sunday 19th April between 2pm and 5.30pm. The gardens are lovely at this time of year with stunning daffodils and beautiful fritillaries. Beautiful Grade I listed C16/C17 moated house (not open). Gardens and woods full of bulbs and wild flowers in spring. Herbaceous border and lawns. Moat flanked by water plants. Mature trees. Wild garden, ducks, chickens and fish. Tea and home made cakesin aid of the church. There are ducks, chickens and guinea fowl wandering around so dogs need to be kept on a lead. Admission £4.00, children free.
Botolphs guided walk
Tuesday 7th April from 11:00am to 1:30pm. Assemble at the Botolphs Layby on the A283 Shoreham Road. Bring your own refreshment.
Egg rolling
Bring your own hand decorated hard boiled egg and try your luck at this Easter custom — the egg that gets furthest down the Dyke Valley wins. There will also be a contest for best decorated egg. Meet near the stone seat, Devil’s Dyke car park, Monday, 6th April from 10:45am–12:00pm, all tickets £1.
Game on – again
Games evenings will be taking place from 7:30pm in the village hall on Friday February 27th and Friday March 20th. All welcome.
Poynings Cricket Club Quiz Night

Sloe Gin

Poynings Sloe Gin and Liqueur Contest: Monday February 23rd at The Royal Oak starting at 7:00pm, judging at 8:00pm. Monday is a ‘cheap meal night’ at the Oak. Entry £1.50 per item (to cover prizes). Items must be made in either 2014 or 2015. As in 2014, there will be a section for our neighbouring villages*.
*Lower standards apply, obviously. Note also that the event is starting an hour earlier than the time given in the February issue of PP.
