A Sussex Wildlife Trust course at Woods Mill taught by Graeme Lyons. This course looks at management issues for invertebrates and how these are applied to different habitats. Mainly a classroom based course with an excursion around Woods Mill to look at management of habitats and micro-habitats for invertebrates that are often over-looked. It is suitable for ecologists, professionals, biology and ecology students and for people who may have some responsibility for land management. Woods Mill, Friday 5th December, 10:00–16:00. The SDNPA’s annual review for 2013-14 has just been published. The first achievement listed in the press release is the provision of 450 water voles to the River Meon. Other highlights include resurfacing just under a mile of the South Downs Way, replacing 46 signposts and repairing or replacing 24 gates. The full report is here [PDF].
Fulking Parish Council asks residents to alert their neighbours in advance if they plan to set off fireworks. This is essential if your neighbours have pets, poultry or livestock on the adjacent land and applies at any time of the year (e.g., birthdays, weddings, parties, New Year, etc.), not just the traditional November round of fireworks

The gardens at Newtimber Place will be open on Sunday 10th August between 2:00pm and 5:00pm. Beautiful Grade I listed C16/C17 moated house (not open). Herbaceous border and lawns. Moat flanked by water plants. Mature trees. Wild garden, ducks, chickens and fish. Tea and home made cakes. Dogs need to be kept on a lead. Admission £3.00, children free, in aid of St Peter & St James Hospice.

Day 2: advanced metering, composition, making a good shot better, fieldwork and supports, focussing and where it goes wrong, putting it all together.
