For purposes of governance, Fulking falls within the Mid Sussex District but our local shops are mostly in Horsham District (Henfield, Steyning). Nevertheless, residents who are unlucky enough to find themselves needing to park in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead or Haywards Heath on a regular basis may wish to read this letter from the MSDC Cabinet Member for Service Delivery.

Bobservation 45: Fulking Fair
Becoming quite an annual habit, Fulking Fair is again with us, this time on Sunday 29th July from midday until 5pm and Allsorts Dog Rescue are joining us from 12.30 until 3pm with a ’fun’ dog show.
The Fair will be opened by the Marta Scott dancers moving from the car park in Downside Meadow along the Street to the North Town Field at 12 noon. There will be an extensive array of stalls along the Street including Fish & chips outside the Old Post Office. Teas and excellent home made cakes can be had at the village hall.
Pony rides for children at the back of the Shepherd & Dog which itself will be open for business. Once again they have generously donated the marquee hire and will be running the bar in the North Town Field where there will be live music led by local group Sold as Seen supported by the Shoreham all stars and others.
A good range of hot and cold food including Rushfields pies, Artisan Bakehouse, French Revolution crepes, Doughnuts and Ice Creams.
Childrens’ games will have Puppet show, Tattoo painting, a Bouncy Castle, Stocks, Coconut Shy, Whack the Rat, Hook the Duck and more. Tombola for adults and one for children. Lots of craft and produce stalls and demonstrations. Tug of War competitions for all ages, sizes and whatever will follow the dog show.
There may be traffic hold ups in the Street and if possible it would be best if village drivers can avoid using the Street at all on that day. We put a lot of work into making this fair enjoyable so why not come and support us with your families and dog(s) and enjoy the day with us?

My fellow parishioners are surely proud to be living in Greater Brighton also known, since 2014, as the Brighton & Lewes Downs UNESCO World Biosphere Region. We are to be vigorously and thoughtfully reminded of this tomorrow, Sunday 1st July, by a vibrant mid-morning stream of pullulating urban visitors encased in a throbbing day-glo rainbow of hi-viz lycra. Their mission is “to connect people and nature and so inspire a positive future that benefits us all” by “combating homelessness, creating opportunities, promoting change”, “conserving and enhancing nature” and “promoting environmental knowledge, learning and awareness”. Faced with such overwhelming beneficence, our humble role, as rural laymen, is simply to smile, wave, throw rice, and accept complimentary copies of The Watchower.
Wide Load
Another static caravan is due to be delivered to Market Garden this Friday (29th June) between 14:00 and 17:00. It will be arriving via Poynings Road, so it will travel through the eastern end of the village and the southern part of Clappers Lane. Clappers Lane residents are urged to move their cars elsewhere during that period. More details will be available from a leaflet due to be put through letterboxes in the next couple of days.

Table Tennis: Friday 29th June, 7:30pm: if the weather is fine then this event will be held at the outdoor table tennis table next to Poynings playing field (bring other outdoor games if you like); if the weather is poor then it will be in Fulking Village Hall. Followed by a visit to the nearest pub, as usual.
