Use Poynings roundabout

The dog-leg between Poynings Church and Saddlescombe Road has been closed by South East Water. It may remain closed until 26th August. An intervention by the Society for the Preservation of the Three-Point Turn (SP3PT) has ensured that the closure is not well signed at the Poynings end.

Hay baler fire

The Argus reports:

Three-quarters of a ton of hay went up in smoke on the A27, closing the eastbound carriageway for two-and-a-half hours. Fire crews had to use pitchforks and tools to stop the blaze inside an agricultural hay baler at 8:45pm on Tuesday. The quick-thinking driver of the tractor towing the baler managed to detach it before it spread to his vehicle. Two crews from Shoreham attended and called two more fire engines from Hove when it became clear that they would run out of water. The fire happened between the A283 Steyning Road junction and the A270 Upper Shoreham Road junction, where there are no fire hydrants.

Not on the buses

Not on the buses
A recent press release from the SDNPA claims that “additional funding for 2015/16 will deliver a series of innovative new initiatives such as .. Wi-Fi on rural bus services”.

What more justification could you need for the purchase of a shiny new 17″ laptop to perch on your knee as you travel to Horsham on the No 17? Answer: a lot.

Wi-Fi-on-rural-bus-services is crazy talk and it isn’t going to happen. If you need convincing, read on.

Trench traffic

Trench traffic Edburton Road
Local residents who still haven’t found time to read the report [PDF 5,900 pages] may be wondering what impact the trench is going to have on them. The answer, at least for those who live to the east of Truleigh Manor Farm, appears to be “not a lot”.

The main construction compound for the entire trench will be at the side of Edburton Road (page 153) and about 100m x 50m in size (page 159). The report itself does not show exactly where this compound will be located but it seems safe to assume that it will be very close to the point where the trench intersects the road (see above). Given the route that the trench will take, the main works traffic from this compound will use the A2037 rather than coming through Fulking and Poynings. There will be some temporary disruption to Horn Lane and to the A281 in Woodmancote when the trench is cut across them.

Call for business support

A27 Action movers & shakers
Appearances to the contrary, these people are not the contestants in an obscure satellite TV game show that you are ashamed to admit watching. Rather, they are the movers and shakers behind the A27 Action campaign and, if you are a business, they want you to provide them with your email address complete their survey and tell them that your staff will get to work on time and your profits will double when the A27 is improved.
