Bluebird Community Transport has extended the Hurst & Hassocks Community bus service on Mondays and Thursdays to include Fulking. Simply call them on 01444-471919 to book your journey. The fare is £3 return, payable to the driver. Set off from Fulking Bus Shelter at 10:05am (approx); return from Hassocks at 12:00 noon. The service began on Monday 24th November 2014. If you live in the further reaches of Clappers Lane, tell the office when you book and you may be able to arrange for the driver to pick you up there.
Bluebird is a community transport charity based in Mid Sussex that provides services to benefit those who have difficulty accessing regular public transport. They do not offer a scheduled bus service and under their terms of operation, people wishing to travel must register with them and book their journey in advance.
If you would like to take advantage of the service, you should call them to register on 01444-471919 between 9:00–12:00 on any weekday. By arrangement with Fulking Parish Council, the usual £10 annual membership fee has been waived for Fulking residents, so all you need to do is call and let them have your details. Any Fulking resident is eligible to join. Once you are a member, all of Bluebird’s other services become available to you.
For example, Bluebird runs the Henfield Community Bus which can provide a dial-a-ride service to Henfield on a Friday for £6 return. Day trips and excursions are also on offer: if you belong to a group that is planning an excursion, then just call Bluebird for a quote. Volunteer car trips are available for awkward individual journeys. If there are any Fulking residents who would like to become volunteer car drivers to help with such trips, then Bluebird would be delighted to hear from you.
If the service proves popular and if passenger numbers are good, then Bluebird will look at extending what is available.
Updated 30th November 2014 to include photos of the inaugural trip.
