The weather had been drizzly all morning and there was no play before lunch, but soon afterwards the players emerged. My second surprise of the day was to see them in coloured clothing whereas I was expecting day one of a three day championship game normally played in whites. .. I returned the following day in somewhat better weather to see proper cricket, in whites, get underway.

Woodmancote Place
West Sussex house price inflation is a myth: in July 2013, Woodmancote Place was on the market for £8m; now, in July 2015, Woodmancote Place is on the market for £8m.

The South Downs Sahara
According to this newish SDNPA website, Fulking is in the midst of a desolate area in which it is impossible to buy or eat local produce. Saddlescombe Farm provides an oasis — they are the only local food producers. Perhaps the SDNPA will give them an award for raising sheep on sand.
‘Tell Us Once’ service launches in West Sussex
Losing a loved one can be a traumatic experience.
There are lots of things that need to be done, at a time when you probably least feel like doing them, including informing what can feel like a never ending list of government departments and local authority services.
That’s why West Sussex County Council, in partnership with District and Borough Councils in West Sussex, is introducing the ‘Tell Us Once’ service in July.
‘Tell Us Once’ is a Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) service which is offered during death registration appointments.
It’s a free service, which notifies several government and council agencies of the death. These include:
- The DWP
- HM Revenue and Customs
- Identity and Passport Services
- Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and
- Council services, such as Adults’ Services, Blue Badge, Children’s Services, Council Tax, Electoral Services
At registration, the Registrar will add the details of the deceased to the Tell Us Once national database.
You will then be given a unique reference number which will enable you to activate ‘Tell Us Once’ with a visit to the website or a single call, should you wish to take up this service.

Dogservation No. 3
Fido was confused. He decided that, on balance, it would be best if he set off for Upper Beeding on Sunday morning after breakfast. If the show wasn’t there, well, he could continue on to Steyning via Bramber. He wasn’t sure about Shoreham — it was a long way and his legs were rather short. He had done it once but he had been much younger in those days and a nice lady from Shoreham Dogs Trust had still had to drive him home.
Fido wasn’t ambitious, or vain, but he had always secretly hoped that he might one day receive a ‘Third Reserve: Well Done!’ beige rosette in the ‘Any Other Dog’ category. Next Sunday was going to be his chance to make that dream come true.
