SDNPA HQ: Progress Report

Town councillors in Midhurst are losing patience. Colin Hughes said “I wouldn’t mind if there was work being done, but there is no indication of any work whatsoever”. Gordon McAra said he was very concerned about the obtrusive fencing around the SDNPA’s Capron House property with apparently little happening behind it. Earlier this month the Midhurst and Petworth Observer revealed that the cost of the project had soared from £1.5m to almost £3m and was continuing to spiral despite little work having yet been carried out. A spokesman for the SDNPA said “we are looking at how we can improve the hoarding”.
Fulking Potluck Party – 8th June 2013
Come along to the Pot Luck Party in the Village Hall on Saturday 8th June at 7pm!
The idea is to make it as informal as possible so that everyone can get involved by making their favourite food. And to make it hassle-free we’re cutting down on washing up by asking everyone to bring along their own plates and cutlery.
Just let us know what you’re planning to cook to make sure we have a good range. We might have oodles of salads but be desperate for puddings. Or we might be short on savouries so we might ask if you can bring along that type of dish.
So what’s left to bring? …the booze, of course!

Fulking Drama – Land Rover plunges over the top
Incredibly luckily, Sheena was saying goodbye to someone on her drive when she heard cries for help coming from the hill. A man called out from the crashed vehicle and they had to shout to each other. Sheena realised that she’d better phone for an ambulance.
Emergency vehicles very quickly turned up in large numbers. There were reportedly about twenty Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade vehicles at one stage parked along the Edburton Road near Perching Drove. Many were left with their engines running and windscreen wipers wiping as the emergency service personnel had rushed on foot up the hill to come to the aid of the trapped people.
The 26 year old driver was trapped for over two hours as the Fire Brigade gradually cut bits off the Land Rover to free him. He was then airlifted away to hospital by the Coastguard helicopter. The white Land Rover had been driving along the top of the hill on the South Downs Way with three occupants on board. At some stage it seemed to lose its grip and careered down the very steep side of the hill. The hill is about 400 feet high at that point. The car hit a bank and then came to rest about half way down the hill. The location it ended up made it inaccessible to all the emergency vehicles.
The BBC News website reports that Sussex Police said the driver had suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, while two other men had minor injuries.

The Aftermath
District Plan: Fulking
- DP9 — protection and enhancement of countryside (everything visible on the map except the core ‘built-up’ part of Fulking shown inside the thick black line).
- DP15 — South Downs National Park (everything shown on the map).
- DP33 — the Fulking conservation area (central pale yellow-green area plus green-blue area adjacent to the Shepherd & Dog).
- DP36 — biodiversity/site of special scientific interest (pink, the north escarpment).
You will need to look at the District Plan (PDF) itself for the fine detail of what DP9, DP15, DP33 and DP36 imply for development, for example.
