The history of Saddlescombe

Thanks to the efforts of Janet Kennish and Graham Wellfare, the National Trust webpages for Saddlescombe have recently been enhanced with a lot of interesting new material:
- Saxons and Normans
- The Knights Templar
- The farm: 1600-1850
- A Quaker family farm
- The twentieth century
[Note added in December 2018: as is their custom, the inexcusably awful National Trust website has now changed or removed all the URLs linked above. The material is probably still there but you will need to search for it.]

Portable defibrillator machines refresher
Tricia Robinson writes:-
I’m organising a refresher course on CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the use of the portable defibrillator machines. It will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 25th January 2014 starting at 9.30 am.
All ages welcome, you never know when or where you will need this skill. It is far simpler these days, & the machines tell you clearly what to do. I had to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation on Lucie, I was relieved I’d just been updated, but it was frightening and lonely. Hence I feel strongly about as many people being trained as possible.

Frozen Ferret & Polecat Purity
Jess Price writes:
If you come across a polecat carcass and are prepared to collect it, please freeze it and contact the Vincent Wildlife Trust by calling 01531 636441 or email. They will arrange for a postage box to be sent to you for the body to be returned in free of charge.
There is a high occurrence of polecat-ferrets in Sussex, which means that this time the Vincent Wildlife Trust is looking for a good sample of polecat/polecat-ferret carcasses for the survey so that they can analyse polecat purity within the county.
