Sussex 4×4 Response are to help police deal with major emergencies. The heavy snow that has fallen in the county over the last few years has shown the benefit of having an extra fleet of all-weather vehicles available to the emergency services. The idea was trialled successfully by Sussex Police during the sudden snowfall in the county in March when Sussex 4×4 Response volunteers helped get 999 control centre staff to their offices to keep the emergency telephone system working. Volunteers will have to undergo first aid training, learn advanced driver skills and be given health and safety guidance before they can get involved in the scheme. They will also vetted by the force and would have to sign a health declaration and confirm their vehicle is in good working order.

A2037 flooding
The Argus is reporting:
Reports of A2037 Henfield Road partially blocked due to flooding around High Street. There are reports traffic is taking it in turns to pass near to Towers Covent School.
Update 10:35am — this is now resolved.
Somewhere in Wiltshire
Somewhere in Wiltshire there a couple of villages that have converted their old red telephone boxes into ‘Take one, leave one’ libraries. They are reported to work well.

Preston Nomads Colts Presentation Evening
We have been advised by the Preston Nomads Cricket Club secretary that they will be holding their Colts presentation evening next Friday 13th Sept 2013 at their club house. This is an event for all age groups and their families.
The evening starts at 5:45 pm and should end at approx. 9pm.
They think there will definitely be increased traffic in the village and particularly in Clappers Lane.
In the case of good weather, it will be an outdoor event.
