Residents with a green bin can put their tree directly into it, as long as the lid closes firmly. Residents who do not have a green bin can take their tree to Rushfields between Friday 2nd January and Friday 16th January 2015. Lots of other options here [PDF].

Christmas collections
There are no garden waste collections between 22nd December 2014 and 4th January 2015 (inclusive). For black/blue bins, the only change that is relevant to Fulking residents is that you need to put the relevant bin out on Saturday 20th December instead of on Monday 22nd December (there is no change in respect of Monday 29th December).
MSDC District Plan 2014-2031 Consultation Draft
Mid Sussex District Council is consulting on its draft District Plan, along with a draft Sustainability Appraisal and draft Habitat Regulation Assessment. The role of the District Plan is to say broadly what, where, when and how development will take place in Mid Sussex over the next 17 years. These documents can be viewed online.
Whilst the overall strategy of the Plan has not changed from the 2013 District Plan, we want to give residents and other interested parties an opportunity to comment on the updated wording of the text and policies, some of which have changed significantly since our last public engagement. These changes have been as a result of responses received, discussions with the professional and statutory bodies including the Planning Inspectorate and Department for Communities and Local Government, cooperation with other local authorities and changes in guidance and national policy.
The draft District Plan does not include a housing number, although it does include policies which allocate land at Burgess Hill for development. The housing number will be set once all of the technical work on housing need and capacity has been undertaken and discussions with our neighbouring authorities have concluded. There will be an opportunity to make comments on the housing number when the Plan is published in May 2015.
Consultation starts 21st November 2014 for 8 weeks with the consultation documents available online from that date. Consultation closes midnight 16th January 2015.
We would like to hear from you and would welcome your views. Comments can be submitted online, by email, or by post (Planning Policy and Economic Development, Oaklands, Oaklands Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 1SS).
All comments received will be public information. More information can be found at www.midsussex.gov.uk/districtplan or by telephone on 01444 477053.
Pistols Barn owls at dawn at the O.K. Corral
“Mayfield Market Towns’ proposals faced a wall of opposition yesterday from every tier of local government. Defending its Housing Plan, Horsham District Council was flanked by two MPs, Sir Nicholas Soames and Nick Herbert, and representatives from Mid Sussex District Council, West Sussex County Council, nine Parish Councils, the CPRE and LAMBS.” [Much more here and here. Nick Herbert here.]

Preston Nomads: licence change
Preston Nomads has applied for a change in the way it is licenced. They wish to change from a club certificate to a premises licence. The main differences are as follows:
- The ability to hire out the premises, provide alcohol and regulated entertainment to non-members;
- Provision of regulated entertainment — films or recorded music between 8:00am–10:30pm Monday to Sunday, indoors;
- Supply of alcohol 8:00am–10:30pm, Monday to Sunday indoors and outdoors;
- Hours of the premises: 8:00am-11:00pm Monday to Sunday.
Further information can, in principle, be found at www.midsussex.gov.uk. Good luck!
Not in our front yard
The Midhurst and Petworth Observer has an interesting report from a Chichester local plan hearing:
Ian Ellis, director of Southern Planning Practice, [said]
The [South Downs] National Park will do the least it possibly can to meet its objectively-assessed housing need, whatever that is going to turn out to be. It will expect a proportion of its objectively-assessed housing need is met by other authorities. My experience is when they go forward with the local plan, they will be .. saying ‘can you accommodate X per cent because we don’t want to accommodate it here and we don’t have to’.
In response, the SDNPA’s strategic planning lead Lucy Howard said the plan was yet to finalise its decisions: “The authority does need to consider the purpose and duty of a national park,” she said, highlighting its ‘landscape sensitiviy’ .. the SDNPA was in the ‘early stages’ of working on its strategic housing market assessment. “We do realise that if necessary we will be approaching neighbouring local planning authorities, but we’re simply not at that stage yet”.
The BBC to film Mayfield — update
Look out for the story on LAMBS’ battle against Mayfield Market Towns to be broadcast on The One Show tomorrow evening from 7:00pm.
The One Show was filming in the locality yesterday looking at Mayfields’ proposals and the wall of opposition from local people. Andy Kershaw and the film crew began at The Royal Oak in Wineham just after breakfast where they spoke to leafleting volunteers before moving to Twineham to interview a local land owner. By lunchtime they were up on Devil’s Dyke talking to LAMBS and the CPRE and then on to Haywards Heath for comments from Mid Sussex District Council and a spokesman from Mayfields.

Renewed traveller risk
There’s an illegal occupation by travellers near the Village Hall in Albourne, and the people may be moved on. MSDC and Sussex Police are aware of it. If you have any issues relating to this occupation, phone Sussex Police on 101 (the non-emergency number). If you see a crime being committed (or just about to be), phone 999 instead. As ever, please continue to keep your garden sheds, outbuildings, etc., secured.
