Survey work on trench begins

Surveying the route of the trench
The West Sussex County Times is reporting that work on surveying the trench is about to begin:

Chris Tomlinson, E.ON Development Manager for the project, said: “Over the next few weeks we’ll be carrying out surveys at various sites along the cable route to help us understand the makeup of the soil and the impact construction may have on the ground. We’ll also be working to identify areas of archaeological importance by digging trenches that will enable us to plan the most appropriate monitoring and protection during construction. Weather permitting, the work will begin at the end of October and is expected to take six to eight weeks.”

Anyone [who] has any questions about the survey works should email rampion@eon.com or call 01273 603 721.

weather-warningNational Severe Weather Warning Service – Chief Forecasters Assessment

A strong, high-level jet is expected to engage warm low level air to give rise to a rapidly moving low pressure system later on Sunday. This is expected to run northeastwards, probably across England and Wales, with very strong winds on its southern and western flanks.

There is the potential for gusts of over 80mph, especially on exposed coasts, bothin southwesterly winds ahead of the low and west to northwesterly winds behind it.

The Met Office have issued an Amber Alert of Wind
Valid from 00:05 on Mon, 28th Oct 2013 until 21:00 on Mon, 28th Oct 2013

A very intense low pressure system is forecast to run northeastwards across the countryearly on Monday, bringing the potential for an exceptionally windy spell of weather for southern parts of the UK. At the same time, persistent, heavy rain could cause some surface water flooding.

At this early stage there is uncertainty about the timing, intensity and track of the low. However, the public should be prepared for the risk of falling trees as well as damage to buildings and other structures, bringing disruption to transport and power supplies.

West Sussex Waste Local Plan 2013 map: the yellow stars are the bad news.
In a pattern we will doubtless see more of, rubbish from the National Park bits of West Sussex will get shipped to locations in the non National Park bits for disposal. A consultation process is about to start so if you want to argue that garbage from Fulking should just be dumped in a field between Perching Drove and Clappers Lane, then that’s probably the appropriate forum in which to make your case.

Truffles phished at NatWest
The Shoreham Herald is reporting:

Small Dole firm Truffles bakery, which has branches in Shoreham and Steyning, lost £19,600 when its NatWest account was raided in a phishing scam. .. Criminals got into the company’s computer using a virus planted in a fake email from HMRC. When the email was opened, the fraudsters could view data being input on the computer, including the firm’s online-banking password and pin code. .. General manager Gabby Taylor made an online payment on Friday, September 20, and found on the Monday morning the money had gone. .. She said: “We are gutted. We employ nearly 200 local people who are paid weekly and this has taken a huge amount out of our cash flow”.
