Piglet shed (anag.)

piglet shed
An advertorial in The Caterer tells us that:

Country pub the Shepherd and Dog serves locally sourced produce and a wide range of local beers in a picturesque setting in Fulking, West Sussex. And while its sprawling setting is undeniably an asset, staff used to find it difficult to maintain a constant presence as customers were hidden away in the many nooks and crannies spread across the gardens.

Since installing Lightspeed, waiters have been able to take orders via an iPad,
which are then sent back to the kitchen and bar in seconds, allowing them to spend more time canvassing the gardens, rather than running back and forth. The system also allows them to take payment at the table which, as owner David Pearse explains, has directly affected revenue. “Lightspeed means that we can pay at the table, bills are instant and online, and food comes out faster, so I turn my tables quicker. This means I make more money.”

Meanwhile, bar manager George Wilson has been most impressed with the system’s reporting capabilities: “I can look there and then, at the pub or at home, to see what’s not selling quickly and what’s selling really quickly; it really helps me with my ordering,” he explains. “Revenue has doubled since we put in Lightspeed — it’s been really, really helpful,” Pearse says.

Updated WWII history pamphlet now available

World War Two in Beeding and Bramber
Pat Nightingale and Ken Wilson-Wheeler have released an updated version of their pamphlet World War Two in Beeding and Bramber. New to this version is an interesting page devoted to Flying Officer Gerald Gordon Lonsdale whose memorial can be found above the organ in St. Andrew’s. Like the earlier WWI book, the pamphlet covers Beeding, Bramber, Edburton, Fulking and Small Dole. It includes brief biographies of those who died including Flight Sergeant James William Lucas (son of Percy Lucas) and Chief Officer John A. Ridge, both of Fulking.

The updated pamphlet (price £6.00) can ordered direct from Pat at Bowfell, Hyde Street, Upper Beeding, BN44 3TG (01903-812847) or via email.

Bobservation No. 51 — Christmas ..

Something of a strange Christmas without Graham’s Carol Service at St Andrews. I cannot understand, whatever the ramifications, why he had to leave in mid November. Surely another few weeks would have been the civilized way for him to bow out.

However, life goes on and the annual village Christmas party is in the village hall on Saturday 8th December from 6 till 8pm and by now you should have received an attractive invitation kindly donated by Ceri. The Social Committee have invited Graham, councillors from County, District and the neighbouring parish of Poynings.

Mulled, red and white wine, beer and soft drinks will be available as will savoury finger food brought by villagers. This evening is such a great chance for all of the villagers to get together. Children are most welcome. It is occasions like this that make Fulking such a vibrant community so please do come along even if you can only stay for a short time.

What a splendid Christmas present to be able to report that refurbishment is taking place of the run down properties in Stammers Hill. Congratulations and thanks to the freeholder and the lessee who is undertaking the work.

The Social Committee AGM will be held on Thurs Feb 7th at 8pm in the village hall. The financial Report for 2018 will be presented and the election of Chair and Treasurer will be subject to a vote by the Committee. All villagers are welcome and we are always looking for new members to assist with various activities including the Fair and Dog show on Sunday 28th July 2019.
