Council bulldozers levelled a small wooden shed yesterday that had been built in the rear garden of Fulking Manor. Armed police attended the demolition. Mr. Stephen Queen, Senior Planning Officer Mid Sussex District Council, explained that the shed had been built of oak, not treated pine as specified in the planning application that had been approved by the Council. “Members of the settled community”, he went on to say, “must understand that the rules are there to be obeyed and that enforcement action will follow immediately if they are not”. Police dispersed a small group of protesters who had gathered outside the front of Fulking Manor.
