Bobservation No. 25

Heading with cows on right

It is with a sense of wonderment that for the first time in my memory a Fulking village calendar has been produced at all and indeed to an incredibly high professional standard. Credit has been given to the photographers and sponsors in the calendar but mention should be made of the marketing expertise that has been kindly supplied by Richard Rawlings and Jen Green for being the driving force amongst the other villagers involved. We can be really proud of the many achievements of Fulking over the last few years.

The launch of the calendar will be in the village hall on Saturday 12 November at 8pm when there will be a slide show of some of the excellent photos that did not make the last 12 and a welcoming glass of wine. Entrance is free but bring cash to purchase calendars.

The 2017 Downland Calendar provides spectacular views of our beautiful South Downs, all year round.

The Fulking Village Hall plays a central role in the life of the local community, so an action group has just put together a calendar to raise funds for maintenance needed to keep it functioning. The Downland Calendar 2017 features a variety of stunning images celebrating different aspects of the surrounding countryside and villages, with photographs taken by local residents clearly in love with this beautiful area.

It would make an ideal Christmas present for family, friends and colleagues, or for yourself! The A4 page calendars are available to buy for only £6.00 and will be supplied shrink-wrapped.

Poynings Bonfire & Fireworks

Poynings bonfire and fireworks
Join us for our bonfire and fireworks at the Blacksmith Field (behind Forge Garage) on Saturday 5th November. The procession will leave the Royal Oak at 6:25pm approximately. Lighting of the fire and fireworks will follow. Please give generously on the gate. Hot food and drink by Sussex Four Wheel Drive in aid of Ye Olde Villagers Christmas Dinner. [Last year, mulled wine was £3.00 glass, and hog roast with stuffing and apple sauce was £5.00.]

Clean-burning material (wood & cardboard) can be taken to the bonfire site from today until 5:00pm on the 1st November.

Heat for Health

Heat for Health
By statute, you are living in fuel poverty if (i) you are poor, and (ii) you live in a home which cannot be kept warm at reasonable cost. That’s tough but, if someone over 65 or under 5 lives in your home, then help is at hand from MSDC. Well, it is until the end of this year, when the Heat for Health scheme ends. Boiler replacements, insulation or secondary glazing may be available to eligible households. Click the image above for more information or email Katja Rothe, the Mid Sussex Community Energy Adviser.

If you are not living in fuel poverty, then another bureaucratic scheme (Act on CO2) advises you to turn your thermostat down by one degree. The warm glow of self-righteousness fully compensates for the consequent drop in temperature (apparently).
