SDNP/14/01350/TCA Shepherd and Dog Inn, The Street, Fulking, Henfield BN5 9LU

  • Remove dead limbs and tidy up the two large ash trees in this section, because of risk to people sitting beneath and to improve the quality of this area. Coppice the hazel and lower shrubs along field bank to improve views across the South Downs. Clear the stream side border adjoining car park and replant with more suitable/inviting plants.
  • Remove dead wood from large ash tree for safety reasons. Remove 50% of cherry saplings surrounding the base of said large ash.
  • Lower trees/shrubs along the far bank of the stream to enhance the quality of the views of the South Downs and to generally tidy this whole area up. Thin the crowns of the trees surrounding the child’s play area to allow more natural light through.
  • Would like to scrub clear this whole area and remove mixed tree saplings to allow some to become mature stand alone trees. This area is overgrown and not too pleasing to the eye in its surroundings.
  • Would like to clear the front of the bank to the rear of the public house, some of the vegetation is starting to touch the roof of this grade two listed building and would like to remove it before it becomes more do an issue. These works would also improve access behind the building.

Full information available on the South Downs National Park website — here.

Members of the press and public are invited to attend. Members of the public are entitled to speak at the meeting for two minutes, by prior arrangement with the Clerk at least 1 hour before the meeting. No more than two speakers for each application and two against.

How should crime and disorder be dealt with?

crime-and-disorder-surveyThe Safer West Sussex Partnership is inviting residents, businesses and partner agencies from across West Sussex to participate in its survey on crime and disorder.

Each year the partnership conducts a comprehensive review, bringing together information from a range of sources to produce a picture of where crime is occurring, the types of crimes people are suffering from and what agencies and organisations are doing to deal with the issues.

Using this information the Partnership can identify which crimes and areas of work are priorities for the year which is then published in a County Community Safety Agreement.

To support this review the Partnership is seeking the views of people who live and work in West Sussex in order to steer the delivery of services underneath its priorities. We would like you to tell us which of our ten priorities are most important to you and how you would allocate resources if you were in charge of the budgets.

Help us to deliver better services for you and your communities by spending a few minutes filling in our online survey available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SWSP2014

Please feel free to forward this email onto any other parties you believe may be interested in helping us shape the way we serve our customers and communities.

The survey will run until the 11th April.

Please contact the Better Communities Team for more information: better.communities@westsussex.gov.uk

West Sussex Better Connected Website Now Live

better_connetctedGulu Sibanda, Principal Community Officer, West Sussex County Council writes :-

Please be advised that there is now a new website to help promote the benefits of better, faster broadband and therefore giving people information about what is happening and where.

A key feature is the interactive map which details activity by exchange area. As the network is being developed, we will update the map to show where work is being carried out and when new broadband services will become available. Initially the information that we can share on the map will be minimal but once we announce the roll out (before Easter) then it should become a useful visual tool for people to see progress in their area.

The website also has a short animation explaining the technology we will use as well as information about the benefits of better, faster broadband. Users can check the availability of broadband to their home or business and get in touch with suppliers to contract to buy services, in the usual way.

Please visit www.westsussex-betterconnected.org.uk for more information.

Broadband Update

better_connetctedLouise Goldsmith, Leader of West Sussex County Council writes:-

Since I last wrote to you in September I would like to update you with progress on our plans to enable connections to better, faster broadband in the county. We aim for the majority of residents and businesses to be able to access superfast fibre-based broadband speeds of 24Mbps in line with national targets and our available funding. We are working hard to beat the government’s target date of Spring 2017 and, by building on the continuing commercial deployment of broadband, ensure that more than 90% of our county can access fibre-based broadband services by Spring 2016.

Since contracting with BT last year we have been carrying out detailed planning to make sure we achieve the best possible coverage for the county in the most cost effective way.

Openreach, BT’s local network business, is carrying out the necessary geographical survey work to challenge or confirm assumptions about how and where the telecommunications network can be built. This will mean reviewing an area of nearly 800 square miles and including 23,000 postcodes. It is a highly complex engineering challenge in our rural and coastal county.

This work is being done in eight overlapping phases and is almost completed for areas in phase one. These areas were identified as important to survey and build first in order to plot the grid for roll out across the county. We anticipate making an announcement before Easter about the first communities to benefit.

To help keep you informed we have created a new website which includes an interactive map to keep track of what is happening where. As we begin building the network we can update the map to show where work is being carried out and when broadband services will become available. The website also has information about the benefits of better, faster broadband and helps to put users in touch with broadband suppliers. The website will be live this week.
