Collecting verge litter

Sunday 30 March, meet at 10:30am

Please get involved in keeping the village tidy and free of rubbish.

There are four meeting points:

  • Party 1 starts at the corner of Clappers/Holmbush lanes and moves South;
  • Party 2 starts at the corner of The Street/Clappers Lane and moves North;
  • Party 3 meets at the Ram House by the Shepherd and Dog and moves up The Street;
  • Party 4 meets at The Deans in Poynings Road and moves towards The Street.

Take care of traffic, wear bright colours and please bring suitable gloves and bin liners to collect the rubbish. Dispose of collected rubbish in your wheelie bins. If this time is not convenient choose your own time and do your bit. Perhaps ending up at the Shepherd & Dog for a well earned pint!

Any queries give me a call on 271.

Be an Angel – recycle your Christmas tree

christmas_tree_recyclefront_MSDC_LogoOnce the festive fun is over, local residents are reminded that they can recycle their real Christmas tree at a number of convenient locations right across Mid Sussex.

Mid Sussex District Council is keen to help get 2014 off to a green start and has set up a number of local collection points so there will always be a place nearby where residents can recycle their real Christmas tree.
Residents with a green garden waste collection bin can put their tree directly into it, as long as the lid can still close firmly. Alternatively, people can take their real tree along to one of the Household Waste Recycling Sites at Fairbridge Way in Burgess Hill or Imberhorne Lane in East Grinstead.

There are also a wide variety of local drop off points in towns and villages across the district.

Sites will be open between Friday 3rd January and Friday 17th January 2014.

Tipper closures to follow tip closure

Golding Barn inert landfill site at Small Dole
The Argus is reporting:

Small Sussex businesses could be bankrupt by Christmas after the closure of a landfill site. The inert landfill site at Golding Barn, Small Dole, near Henfield, was shut down after its operator breached its waste limit by 50%. .. Fiona Cave, of MRL Grab & Tip Limited, said: “As of yesterday, my business is worthless. There are no other inert landfill sites in the area — the next one being near Chichester and since my lorries only do six miles to the gallon, and it would take me hours to do a return trip from my base in Burgess Hill, my charge to my customer of £170 per load plus VAT would not even cover the cost of running the lorry.”

No bin collection on Monday

No bin collection on Monday 28th October due severe weather conditions.
Update:

Please place your bins out ready for collection on Saturday. Garden waste – please leave your bin out now and the crews will be catching up throughout the rest of the week. [With thanks to the Poynings email alert service.]

Original post:
There will be no bin or sack collections due to severe weather on Monday 28th October, so please do not put your bins out tonight. You are advised to secure bins and anything loose in gardens if possible, as extremely high winds are expected. MSDC website and twitter (@msdcnews) will be used to communicate any more information.

West Sussex Waste Local Plan 2013 map
West Sussex Waste Local Plan 2013 map: the yellow stars are the bad news.
In a pattern we will doubtless see more of, rubbish from the National Park bits of West Sussex will get shipped to locations in the non National Park bits for disposal. A consultation process is about to start so if you want to argue that garbage from Fulking should just be dumped in a field between Perching Drove and Clappers Lane, then that’s probably the appropriate forum in which to make your case.

A magnet for rubbish

Small Dole is a magnet for rubbish
The West Sussex County Times reports:

Sweeptech [have applied] to change the use of a site from a storage and distribution centre to a waste recycling facility off Shoreham Road, just south of Henfield and north of Small Dole, [it] will recycle 75,000 tonnes of waste per year collected from road sweeping and gully clearing. ..

Henfield resident Adrian Jessup lives just 100 yards from the proposed 22 acre site, also known as the Old Brickworks. “Sweeptech have said there will be 35 movements a day from the site onto Shoreham Road (A2037), which is situated on a bend that has no overtaking on it, and if they can’t go through Henfield or Small Dole they’ll have to take Horn Lane, a small treacherous road.” ..

Small Dole residents have battled waste facilities in the past, including Horton Landfill Site, which opened in 1991 and closed in 2011. Small Dole Action Committee member Chris Warren said residents are still ‘suffering the consequences of pollution’. “Small Dole seems to be a magnet for waste processing. It’s more than we need,” said Mr Warren. “We have had waste lorries for donkey’s years and there’s been damage done to the roads as a result. There will be a dozen residents directly affected by this.” Mr Warren said he is also concerned about the waste vehicles’ route, and claimed it could potentially affect Henfield, Woodmancote, Small Dole and Upper Beeding.
