Downland photos needed

Fulking Calendar Project
A reminder that a group of villagers are hoping to put together a photographic Downland Village Calendar for 2017. The content will be high-quality photos of Fulking and nearby villages featuring local landscapes, the South Downs in all seasons, weather, buildings (e.g., churches) and possibly wildlife and livestock. Photographs should be in landscape format (i.e., wide rather than tall) with minimum pixel dimensions of 2500 x 1700. The response so far has been truly inspiring but we want the range to be as wide as possible, so please send your favourite Downland photos to photos@fulking.net by the end of May at the latest. Also send us a telephone number so we can contact you. Money raised from the calendar will go to help the village.

Downland Villages Recipe Book

Downland Villages Recipe Book
The four parishes in the Downland Benefice are joining together to produce a recipe book to raise funds for maintaining the churches in Edburton, Newtimber, Poynings and Pyecombe. The book will feature seasonal recipes, using local produce when possible. We would love to hear from anyone who can help us in any way, such as typing, editing, marketing and organising a book launch. And of course we need lots of recipes to choose from! What is your favourite recipe, using local, seasonal ingredients? Email your recipe to downlandrecipes@icloud.com or drop it into Westend Cottage, The Street, Poynings by 30th June.

Sussex Agricultural History

Threshing machine C19
A talk by Dr. Geoffrey Mead (University of Sussex) to Henfield History Group at 8:00pm on Tuesday 10th May in the Free Church Hall, Coopers Way, Henfield. The Sussex landscape is a complex linkage of natural features and processes — the geology and topography of the county. This has been adapted by man into a human landscape which is largely one of agricultural development. The talk will consider the regional and historical variation in Sussex agriculture.
