Readers will recall that the Parish Council held a public meeting on Wednesday 30th April to hear the views of the local community and to respond to an earlier consultation document.
Yesterday, the Airports Commission published for consultation its assessment of proposals for additional runway capacity at Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
The consultation presents the commission’s analysis of the proposals shortlisted by the commission last year: two for expansion at Heathrow Airport and one proposal at Gatwick Airport. It invites public comment on the commission’s detailed consideration of each proposal. This includes analysis of the cost of each proposal, the effect on communities of noise, property loss and construction, and the economic benefits and environmental impacts.
The information included in this consultation will enable respondents to give their view on the strengths and weaknesses of each short-listed option. It also invites comment on the commission’s review of the underlying evidence and analysis. These comments will then be taken into account and used to validate and challenge the commission’s assessments, ahead of the final report in the summer of 2015. During the consultation the Airports Commission will hold open discussion sessions for local stakeholders in both the Heathrow and Gatwick areas. The consultation will close on 3 February 2015.

Readers have probably failed to notice that today is World Responsible Tourism Day. Never mind, the worthy staff at the SDNPA have your back. They have produced a two-minute muzak-laden collage of pretty views to mark the day. They are also promoting an internet travel agent called responsibletravel.com (see above) whose slogan is ‘travel like a local’. In the case of the South Downs National Park, that implies the use of two cars, at least one one of which must be a 4×4.
The Kent and Sussex Courier reports:

It is due to be completed, weather permitting, by Monday November 17 and mean closures of the road between 8:00pm and 6:00am. A fully signed diversion route will be in place via the A23, A259 and A26. The diversion will add approximately 10 miles to journeys. The A27 will be closed between the Falmer interchange and the Southerham roundabout as follows:
- Monday October 20 to Sunday November 2: eastbound carriageway
- Monday November 3 to Monday November 17: westbound carriageway
As readers who heard Peter Griffiths speak at the recent meeting of Fulking Parish Council already know, Mayfield Market Towns has been caught telling porkies. You can catch up on all the details at the LAMBS website. Nothing that Mayfield says in the future can be taken at face value.
West Sussex County Council has finally begun to remove all of the speed bumps that have been causing damage to three of Bramber’s oldest houses: Yew Tree Cottage, The Gables and St. Mary’s House. The campaign by residents against the bumps has lasted for over twenty years. Buses are being diverted.
