Pimms for Hymns at St. Andrew's Edburton

St. Andrew’s Edburton — 6:00pm 29th May 2016

Annual Hymns and Pimms songs of praise service on May 29th. This is always a lovely occasion when we try to lift off the church roof with our singing, accompanied by a glass of Pimms. If you would like to suggest a favourite hymn for us to sing please do let us know.

Poynings & Edburton road closures

Dogleg closure
The dog-leg that connects Poynings to the Saddlescombe Road will be closed from Monday 15th February until Friday 19th February. More details here but the notice appears to be incorrect judging from the diversion signs already posted.

If you were thinking that you might escape from Fulking by driving in the opposite direction, that’s tough, the Edburton Road is also closed, for the same period (rat underpass work). Stock up and stay put.

St. Andrew’s Edburton

Carlo Crivelli's portrait of St. KatherineToday sees the continuation of our series of posts on the history of St. Andrew’s. You can read F.A. Howe’s 1949 essay on St. Katherine’s Chapel and its rather gruesome link to a popular firework; Lindsay Fleming’s 1958 article on the Hippisley Memorial, whose restoration he supervised, and the wording of the no longer legible verse that appears on it; and the results of Chris Comber’s recent work on the identities of those former residents of Fulking and Edburton whose names appear on one or both of the two War Memorials.
