Larry

Larry by Mark Burgess starring Keith Drinkel

At Fulking Village Hall on Saturday 15th July at 7:00pm, duration about 65 minutes, tickets are £8 (£5 concessions) and available on the door only.

Larry is a play by Mark Burgess, directed by Daniel Finlay and starring Keith Drinkel as Sir Laurence Olivier. It tells the story of Olivier in his declining years making a new career for himself in film and television. He remembers his career running the National Theatre and his five years of stage fright. It tells of his determination to keep on working and his final performance of King Lear for television.

Larry has been previously performed in London and at Brighton Festival. Keith Drinkel’s own career spans fifty years on stage.

We might even repeat our 2014 Argus award of the ‘Best Community Event in Sussex’. Parking and admission are both free. The various attractions that your Social committee has brought together are:

CAKES!, CAKES!, CAKES!
Due to the success of ‘Teas’ in the village hall & garden last year The Teas Team have agreed to repeat the exercise! So, once again they are desperate for cakes. It is important to let Pam (271) or Tricia (255) know if you are able to donate a cake (last year you were all amazing!) so that they have some idea of how many they will receive. All cakes can be dropped off (not literally!) in the hall after 10.30 on the day or given to Pam or Tricia by prior arrangement.

CALL MY BLUFF
Not many tables unreserved for Friday 28 July at 7pm in the North Town Field. Places are £15 or £100 for a table of 8. Pay on the night but book through Bob (271) or Emily at the Shepherd & Dog.

Parking in Clappers Lane

Garages in Clappers Lane

Residents of Clappers Lane will hold a meeting in the Village Hall on Friday 7th July at 7.30pm to discuss parking at the southern end of Clappers Lane. All villagers are welcome to attend and contribute to the discussion. The aim of the meeting is to look for solutions to ease parking for those without off-road parking — specifically residents between 5 and 27 Clappers Lane.

Most of us are aware of a number of recent incidents because of too many cars parked along a very narrow stretch of Clappers Lane and very large vehicles travelling regularly along the lane causing obstructions and accidents. It has also had a knock-on effect for parking in The Street.

Do come along with comments and suggestions. If you can’t attend and want to contribute your ideas, please email Linda Dyos at linda.dyos@fulking.plus.com or pop a note through her letterbox at number 11 in advance of the meeting.

Bobservation No. 31

Bob's pinboard
This year Fulking Fair and the Call my Bluff evening will be held on the North Town Field. The Fair will be on Sunday 30th July from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm and Call my Bluff on Friday 28th July at 7:00pm for 7:30pm.

The Fair will have hot and cold food including fish & chips, Rushfields Pies and Punjabi Street Food. The Shepherd & Dog have kindly donated the hire of the marquee and will have a bar there during the fair. Live music will be provided by Sold as Seen and other local groups throughout the afternoon. There will be over thirty stalls with demonstrations, crafts, food and drinks. Children’s entertainment will include face painting, pony rides, bouncy castle, stocks, a puppet show, Bubble Pop and other games. Teas and cakes will be served in the Village Hall. Along the Street there will be a number of villager operated stalls including ice cream and burgers. Admission and parking will be free. The latest news is that there will be tug-of-war competitions including a response to a challenge from Poynings.

The Call my Bluff evening will consist of twelve tables of eight participants pondering over eight wines and sustaining themselves on superior nibbles. Places are £15 per head and the expert panel delivering the descriptions of the wines will include an aged parishioner and a well-known landlord. To reserve a table (or individual seats) please phone Emily at the Shepherd & Dog on 857382.

Both of these events are in aid of refurbishing the village hall and deserve your wholehearted support. The Fulking Social Committee have given a great deal of their time to the preparation of both days but still need helpers at the Fair itself. If you can spare a bit of time on the Sunday please give me a call (271) or email. We need you.

Lastly there will almost certainly be some disruption to the movement of traffic through the village on 30th July. Please do your best to assist by avoiding driving in the Street between 11:00am and 6:00pm. Apologies and thank you in advance for your cooperation.
